The Cincinnati Reds traded their ace, Johnny Cueto, to the Kansas City Royals Sunday. Cueto has pitched exclusively for the reds and last year finished second for the NL Cy Young Award. Cueto won 20 games in 2014, as well. This year Cueto’s ERA is well below 3.00 and has a record of 7-6.
Despite the loss of a proven ace, the Reds received three top prospects, all left-handed pitchers from the Royals. Brandon Finnegan is the headliner of the three, as he is the only player to pitch in both the College World Series and MLB World Series in the same year. Cody Reed will join Finnegan in Triple-A Louisville, and John Lamb will be sent to Double-A Pensacola.
Further Reds trade rumors are swirling with names such as Jay Bruce, Aroldis Chapman, Mike Leake, and Marlon Byrd mentioned.
