While the Cincinnati Bearcats Women’s soccer team won the conference championship this weekend, the football team eliminated itself from doing the same. The Bearcats, who faced No. 25 Houston (undefeated), lost 33-30 in a competitive contest. Cincinnati had three turnovers, 11 penalties, and a botched onside kick. The sloppy play did not prevent the Bearcats from making it close. QB Gunner Kiel led Cincinnati with 523 yards passing (career-high) and four touchdowns despite throwing two interceptions. QB Greg Ward Jr. led Houston to their ninth victory (9-0, (5-0 AAC)) throwing two touchdown passes, and also two interceptions. Houston RB Kenneth Farrow ran for 106 yards and a touchdown. The Bearcats could not convert on downs late in the fourth quarter, effectively ending the game. Houston now is the only undefeated team in the American Athletic Conference. Cincinnati falls to 5-4 (2-3 AAC).
Cincinnati returns to Nippert Stadium to play Tulsa, who has identical records, on Saturday night 7:30 p.m. (ESPNEWS). Houston plays Memphis (8-1) next week.
