Reds Fall Short

The San Francisco Giants defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-4, to cap an amazing comeback in the 5 game series, after trailing 0 games to 2. Ironically, the Giants were held scoreless for eight of nine innings. Unfortunately for the Reds, the Giants put up a six spot in the fifth inning. This was marked by Giants C Buster Posey’s grand slam to give the Giants a 6-0 lead. The Reds responded with two in the bottom half. A home run by LF Ryan Ludwick cut the deficit in half in the sixth. In the ninth inning, the Reds scored yet again bringing the score to 6-4. As the winning run at bat, RF Jay Bruce had an epic battle with Giants closer Sergio Romo. In what resulted in a 12 pitch at-bat, Bruce fouled off pitch after pitch after pitch. Then, he flied out to left field for the 2nd out. 3rd Baseman Scott Rolen struck out to end the series.

Game 5

Games 3 and 4 went to the San Francisco Giants, and now the Reds and Giants have a rubber match that determines the entire series. An all or nothing game 5 will begin at 1:00 pm on TBS. Reds SP Mat Latos will face Giants SP Matt Cain. The Giants may have the momentum after winning two in a row on the road, but Latos has been a Giants killer. Latos has a 0.56 ERA against the Giants this season in two regular season starts. He is also much better at home than on the road, with an ERA of 3.18 as compared 3.93. Don’t forget he pitched 4 innings in Game 1 and allowed one run in the victory. Cain, on the other hand, has struggled vs. the Reds. After going 0-2 against the reds this season with a 5.54 ERA, Cain lost Game 1 of the series, allowing two home runs. Still, nobody will be surprised if the Giants win Game 5 and sweep the Reds at home, but the same can be said about a Reds victory. In other words, nobody knows, they will have to watch to find out.
