Sugar Bowl: Cards Crush Gators; Other Bowls

Allstate Sugar Bowl
The Louisville Cardinals defeated the Florida Gators 33-23 in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. But from the first play, Louisville led the game and did not look back. By halftime, Louisville led 23-10, and was up 33-10 before Florida scored two late meaningless TD’s. Cardinals QB Teddy Bridgewater proved he was the real deal, by shredding Florida’s defense, throwing for 2 TD’s. Louisville and Florida both finish the entire season at 11-2.

Discover Orange Bowl
Northern Illinois faced Florida State in Miami as huge underdogs. In the third quarter, a Martel Moore TD catch brought the game to a 17-10 game, with FSU leading. After a recovered onside kick, the Huskies were on the move before QB Jordan Lynch threw a drive-killing interception. Two FSU TD’s later allowed the Seminoles to pull away late in the 4th Quarter. FSU QB E.J. Manuel would finish his career with 4 consecutive bowl victories.

Rose Bowl Game Pres. by VIZIO
Wisconsin could not overcome the hole they dug in Pasadena, losing to Stanford 20-14. Interim Coach Barry Alvarez (yes, the former coach) led his team in the Rose Bowl, after Coach Bret Bielema left for Arkansas. Outback Bowl
South Carolina survived Michigan in an exciting contest, 33-28. A highlight of the game was a devastating hit by Jadeveon Clowney which caused a fumble, and was recovered by Clowney.

Capital One Bowl
The Georgia Bulldogs beat the Nebraska Cornhuskers 45-31 in Jacksonville, FL. QB Aaron Murray threw for 427 yards and 5 TD’s, easily deserving the game’s MVP award.

Heart of Dallas Bowl
Oklahoma State dominated Purdue in an easy 58-14 victory.

Taxslayer.com Gator Bowl
Minnesota could not hold off Northwestern, as the Wildcats won 34-20. Northwestern was able to win their first bowl game in ages.

Chick-Fil-A Bowl
Clemson defeated LSU 25-24 on a last-second field goal. Clemson QB Tajh Boyd threw for over 300 yards and two TD’s in a thrilling matchup.

After the final week of the regular college football season we learned:

  • Georgia is about as good as Alabama, but lost by single digits to the Crimson Tide by single digits in SEC Championship. Thus, Alabama wins the SEC.
  • Kansas State is the Big 12 Champion.
  • Wisconsin is the Big Ten Champion after upsetting Nebraska.
  • Florida State is the ACC Champion after defeating Georgia Tech.
  • Northern Illinois is in the Orange Bowl and will play Florida State.
  • Stanford is the Pac-12 Champion after defeating UCLA for the second week in a row, this time in the Pac-12 Championship.
  • Louisville won the Big East Championship by defeating Rutgers.
