Tide Rolls

The Discover BCS National Championship pitted #1 Notre Dame vs. #2 Alabama at Sunlife Stadium in Miami, FL. With over 80,000 people in attendance, the game was expected to be competitive even though Alabama was favored by 7. But the Tide had other plans as they jumped out to a 21-0 lead early. At Halftime, the lead was 28-0. Fans wishing for a competitive game, were out of luck (unless they saw AJ McCarron’s girlfriend). More than half of the attendance were Notre Dame fans. But despite their support, the Fighting Irish were losing 35-0 in the third quarter. Late in the game, the teams exchanged two touchdowns, leaving the final score: Alabama 42 Notre Dame 14. The Crimson Tide have now won 15 National Titles, and 3 of the last 4. Alabama coach Nick Saban won his fourth National Title. Notre Dame was the first independent team to play in the BCS National Championship. There were two controversial calls early in the game. One involved a Notre Dame incomplete catch that appeared to be a catch, and the other was questionable ND interference with a punt returner. However, the lopsided score made these rulings fairly insignificant.

TIde RB Eddie Lacy was MVP, as he had two rushing touchdowns. Alabama QB AJ McCarron threw four touchdown passes, dissecting the Irish defense at will. Two of those passes were caught by WR Amari Cooper. In the end, only two TD’s were scored by ND, a run by QB Everett Golson and a pass from Golson to WR Theo Riddick. It should be noted that BOTH teams had outstanding seasons. ND: 12-1 ALA:13-1
