The San Francisco Giants won game 7, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0 in the NLCS to advance to the World Series. They will play the Detroit Tigers in a best-of-seven series. For the Giants, it will their second appearance in the WS in three years. San Francisco becomes fourth team to win three straight games against the defending champions, when trailing in a series to advance. Cardinals C Yadier Molina was the bright spot for St. Louis, batting 4 for 4 in the loss. Alas for him, the remainder of the team was 3 for 30. Giants SS Marco Scutaro was named NLCS MVP.
Games 3 and 4 went to the San Francisco Giants, and now the Reds and Giants have a rubber match that determines the entire series. An all or nothing game 5 will begin at 1:00 pm on TBS. Reds SP Mat Latos will face Giants SP Matt Cain. The Giants may have the momentum after winning two in a row on the road, but Latos has been a Giants killer. Latos has a 0.56 ERA against the Giants this season in two regular season starts. He is also much better at home than on the road, with an ERA of 3.18 as compared 3.93. Don’t forget he pitched 4 innings in Game 1 and allowed one run in the victory. Cain, on the other hand, has struggled vs. the Reds. After going 0-2 against the reds this season with a 5.54 ERA, Cain lost Game 1 of the series, allowing two home runs. Still, nobody will be surprised if the Giants win Game 5 and sweep the Reds at home, but the same can be said about a Reds victory. In other words, nobody knows, they will have to watch to find out.
We all know by now that the Cincinnati Reds will play the San Francisco Giants on Saturday for game 1 of the NLDS. First pitch will be at 9:37 p.m. at AT&T Park in San Francisco. The Reds finished 97-65 for the season, while the Giants finished 94-68. Johnny Cueto will start for the Reds on the mound versus Giants’ hurler Matt Cain. This will be a best of 5 series, meaning the team with three wins will advance to play in the NLCS. Saturday’s game will be televised on TBS.
